Highveld Rhodesian Ridgebacks
We met our first Rhodesian Ridgeback in 1998. It was our first visit to South Africa. Lying on the floor in Lievland Estates in Paarl was a 4 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback. We were amazed at his behavior and beauty. Upon our return home we set out to meet more ridgebacks and make sure this was the breed for us. While, at the time we were enthusiastic about the breed, we were but novice dog owners. We had so much to learn.
We started out learning the ropes of showing our 1st female -- CH Symetri Highveld's Good Hope, SC. We followed instructions given by "show people." "Don't teach her to sit or she will sit in the ring." Piper was a year old when we added Mopane (Pronounced mo pan -e). She is the foundation of what we are breeding (DC Shabani's Highveld Mopane, SC, CGC ROM).
We have been blessed with people coming into our lives to train us! We have progressed to participating in performance events with our ridgebacks -- lure coursing, agility, rally and hopefully one day soon, obedience. They are REALLY smart! We actually like the performance over the showing as it is more exciting, but even showing is doing something with them and that is what we enjoy. I recently lost all of our previous website so this will be a slow process to set up a new one. It was time to update it so I guess I must have needed the motivation! Check back for new updates.
